Appreciation

Thanks for all the wonderful comments! The enthusiastic effort of the Smedheads has broken the all time record for web traffic today!
One of the comments pointed out that I forgot to mention some of the "unsung heroes" of the Saints 49ers game. I apologize for my oversight. The wide receivers had a wonderful game. Meachems long catch was one of the most impressive of the year and Lance Moore continues to catch anything thrown his way. Devery did a good job stretching the defense which gave Deuce more running room. Also I would like to point out that the Defense was outstanding against the 49ers. Everyone here at SmedleysSaintsReport appreciates their monumental effort.

BREAKING NEWS

"Top draft pick Sedrick Ellis will be lost to the New Orleans Saints for two to four weeks with a right knee injury. The defensive lineman from Southern California has a medial meniscus tear. He left Thursday's practice after hearing what he said was ''kind of a click" in his knee." (New Orleans Times-Picayune)

Deuce, Deuce, Deuce

Sorry It has been a while since my last post. I was in Oakland handeling the coaching situation since Lane Kiffin's departure. Everything is rolling smoothly there so I thought I would leave some comments about the Saints.
How about Deuce McAllister! He had a wonderful game coming back from injury. It was obvious that the 49ers game plan was to stop Reggie Bush. Deuce took full advantage of this and had a very nice game.
Drew Brees quietly leads the league in passing. I can't say enough about this guy. If he were any where else he would be a media darling, instead he is overlooked because he is in New Orleans. As of right now he is my front runner for League MVP.
Defense wins championships and the Saints are now showing that they can be a good defensive team too. If the defense continues to play at this level go ahead and book your Saints Super Bowl tickets.
My Fantasy Leaders for this week are (QB- Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers) (RB-Marion Barber,Reggie Bush, Matt Forte) (WR-Greg Jennings, Roddy White, Larry Fitzgerald) ( TE-Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Chris Cooley) (K-Martin Gramatica, Mason Crosby)

Saints Photos

I am going to start putting up pictures of me with some of the Saints players. I got a good one at the game with Vilma and Shockey!

Missing Colston...

Injuries have started to pile up for the Saints. None so costly as the injured Marques Colston. Although he did not have a big first game his presense allows others to have big games. I was hoping that Robert Meachem could be that kind of target for Brees and maybe one day he will but it was not yesterday. The Saints still looked fairly good against the Skins but were not quite good enough for the win.
The winning score came against the Saints injured secondary. Tracy Porter was a little behind Santana Moss for the long pass from Campbell. The Saints still need to work on eliminating the big pass play.
Bush had a nice game that included a 55 yard punt return for a touchdown. He also had 28 yards rushing and 63 yards receiving.
Shockey took a small step backwards causing an interception and loosing a fumble. He should bounce back for the next game.
Deuce is still being used in a limited roll but I expect that to change. The Saints had a hard time moving the ball on the ground against the Skins so look for Deuce to have a bigger roll when tough yards are needed.
My fantasy leaders for week 3 are (QB: Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers)(RB: Brandon Jacobs, Reggie Bush, Michael Turner)(WR: Randy Moss, Greg Jennings, Calvin Johnson)(TE: Jeremy Shockey, Antonio Gates)(K: Martin Gramatica, Rob Bironas)(D/ST: Saints, Patriots)

Saints Victorious in First Game!

I am very sorry it has taken so long for me to put up another post. Hurricane Gustav put me out of commision for a little while. I know there are a lot of fans out there who have been waiting for updates and I thank you for your patience.
Well let me start off by saying thankyou Reggie Bush. He looked sensational in his season opener. He had over one hundred and sixty all purpose yards and the game winning touchdown. I think we can expect more performances like this throughout the year.
The offense looked good but not great. I think this is because the Bucs are a good defensive team. Drew Brees had a great game and so did Jeremy Shockey. Pierre Thomas also looked solid filling in for Deuce Mcallister. Devery Henderson and David Patten each had long receptions for touchdowns. The on blemish of the day was the interception. Had Brees not been hit on the play Lance Moore would have had an easy reception that probably would have gone for a touchdown. That would have made the margin of victory eighteen instead of four.
The defense showed up for the Saints against the Bucs. Even without Mike Mekenzie the secondary played very well. Tracy Porter in particular did an outstanding job. The defensive line was also outstanding. Garcia had pressure in his face all day and even sustained an injury. I think this pressure also made it easier for the secondary. Vilma was solid at Linebacker and Fujita had the game winning play on a crucial fourth down conversion for the Bucs.
It looks like good things are in store for the Saints this year! Let me know what you think!

Wide Recievers?

Who will make the Saints squad at the wide reciever position? The Saints have a lot of talent in this position and it will be a heated battle for the final six spots. I think the final six will be Colston, Patten, Meachem, Henderson, Moore, and Copper. Possibly Green or Arrington over Copper or Henderson. What are your thoughts?

Saints News

Saints looked good despite preseason loss. Both Colston and Bush made sportscenter's top ten plays for their touchdown receptions. Deuce had an excellent coming out party, showing no ill effects from his surgically repaired knee. He made a crucial 3rd down reception to keep a scoring drive alive in the first half. All in all the Saints should have the best offense in the league.
The defense was a little different story. Although Ellis and Vilma looked strong, David continues his stuggles at cornerback. The secondary is definitely the most questionable part of the team. Hopefully the return of Mckenzie and the emergence of Usama Young can sure up the backfield.
